At what age can my child start playing golf?
There's no age that's too young. Any child who can walk, pick up a club, and shows an interest in the sport should be allowed to play.

Starting a child with lessons is your first step toward preventing injuries caused by improper form. Deciding on the right golf instructor may take some shopping around on your part. Choose an instructor who is not only qualified to teach the sport, but has the ability to communicate clearly at your child's age level, and the patience necessary to work with a youngster; many junior programs offer free lessons for children. Remember that even though you've gotten lessons for your child, he won't do everything perfectly every time. Allow him some space to practice swinging for fun, even without perfect form. His love for the sport will encourage him to improve his technique in time.

Is there any advantage to my child having his own clubs?
Like anything your child tries, golfing may not turn out to be his lifetime passion. There's really no advantage to investing in expensive clubs and shoes until you know the sport is around to stay. Be sure the clubs your child plays with are the right size, and that his regular tennis shoes provide both arch support and lateral stability. Even if Junior decides he wants to get serious about the sport, most used clubs are just as good as the new ones.
